Kajiado housing development and human settlement programme budget in million KSh
February 2022

The single highest allocation under the housing development and human settlement programme is for Slums Upgrading at KSh 500 million. According to the 2018-2022 Kajiado County Integrated Development plan, there are almost 4,000 people (representing 1% of the urban population) living in slums and squatter settlements such as Mathare and Gichagi in Ngong, Kware in Ong’ata Rongai and Majengo in Kajiado.

The high demand for low cost housing is due to increasing population and migration from rural to urban areas. Gichagi, Kware, Makaurini (in Loitokitok), Embulbul and Mathare have been identified as the potential areas that can benefit most from housing development.
