An article published by Education News claims that the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) announced 5,000 new teaching vacancies in secondary and primary schools.
TSC is an independent commission established under the Constitution of Kenya to manage human resources within the education sector.
On 29th June 2021, Education News through its Facebook page and website reported that TSC is recruiting 5,000 new tutors in secondary and primary schools.
The report stated that TSC Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr Nancy Macharia had disclosed that 4,000 teachers would be deployed to secondary schools while 1,000 would be deployed to primary schools.
The report added that interested candidates should submit applications through the commission’s website.
Notably, there has been an influx of fake news regarding teacher recruitment in June based on TSC’s warning to the public.
To check the legitimacy of this claim, we scanned the TSC website for the job application and determined there was an actual recruitment call for 5,000 vacancies. However, the recruitment is now closed.
